Why Study in Germany

Education system in Germany

Germany has state-run universities and colleges, private universities and cooperative universities as well as other schools offering a wide range of courses through full-time and part-time participation. To obtain a Bachelor’s degree you must have 12+01 year of education. The duration of your course may be a minimum of 3 years. A one or two year study program equals 120 ECTS points. A student must have a bachelor’s degree to apply for a master’s program.

A master’s degree is equivalent to a German ‘Diploma’ or ‘Magister’ degree. You can apply for a Ph.D. after completing your master’s program.

Admissions Procedure

In order to study in Germany, foreign students may have to apply to different universities as per the guidelines provided by each university.

There are two main intakes in a year, summer and winter; the student has to plan the admission process well in advance to meet the application deadlines of each selected university.

Once the applications made, the student will get communication from respected universities till admission confirmation.

If the student is working in any company then all the relevant work experience certificates needs to be attached with the applications.

Required Tests

German universities accept applications with all the academics and certificates of German and English Language Proficiency. Student needs 6.0 to 6.5 bands in IELTS to prove the English language requirement. German language level A1 and A2 needs to be completed to secure the admission.

Accommodation Facilities

The student can avail the rooms in student halls of residence provided by the university near the campus. Student may lease a room or an apartment on sharing basis as per his / her choice and budget. The student will have to consider 8040 Euro year expenditure in total on living expense comprises of room rent, food, stationary expense, and miscellaneous expenses.

Cost of Education

The education system in Germany mainly divides into two parts; paid and fee education. Almost all the universities offering masters Program have free education set up for international students. Some universities offering paid education have fees range from 15000 to 25000 Euros per year.

The students applying for Undergraduate program are required to enrol in preparatory year admission leading to admission in Graduation in the second year.

German universities also offer free doctoral studies for 3 years.

Work Prospects

International students are allowed to work a maximum of 120 full days or 240 half days in year.

Permanent Residency

The student can apply for an 18-month residence permit from local foreign nationals’ registration office to look for a job as per relevant qualification. During these 18 months, student may take up any kind of employment to support him / her and fund job search.
