Spain's Digital Nomad Visa, the visa for international telework created by Ley 28/2022, lets non-EU professionals live in Spain while working remotely: employees for companies located outside Spain, and self-employed professionals mainly for clients outside Spain, with Spanish clients allowed up to 20% of their activity. The income test is 200% of the SMI, which for 2026 is €1,221 a month in 14 payments (€17,094 a year). The consular visa runs for one year, followed by a three-year residence authorisation from inside Spain, renewable for two more. XIPHIAS Immigration helps applicants check eligibility, prepare documents and apply.
Open to remote employees of companies outside Spain and to self-employed professionals.
Self-employed applicants may take Spanish clients for up to 20% of their activity; employees may not work for companies in Spain.
Income of 200% of the SMI, plus 75% for the first family member and 25% for each additional one.
One-year visa, then a three-year authorisation renewable for two more.
Long-term residence after five years; citizenship after ten years for Indian nationals.

Confirm the three-month working relationship and that the company has traded for at least one year.
Prepare certified documents, including income evidence and a Commercial Registry certificate.
Submit the visa application at the Spanish consulate and pay the €90 fee.
Travel to Spain and apply for your TIE residence card within 30 days of arrival.
Apply from inside Spain for the three-year residence authorisation.

What it takes to qualify.
Non-EU/EEA national working remotely as an employee or a freelancer.
A degree or postgraduate qualification, or at least three years' professional experience.
A working relationship of at least three months, with a company trading for at least one year.
Income of at least 200% of the SMI (€34,188 a year in 2026), plus family uplifts.
Health insurance and a clean criminal record.
