Italy's Digital Nomad Visa, introduced by the Ministry of the Interior decree of 29 February 2024, allows highly qualified non-EU professionals to live in Italy while working remotely, either self-employed or as employees of a company that may be based outside Italy. The permit is issued for one year and renewed annually, each time re-testing income, accommodation and insurance. XIPHIAS Immigration assists with eligibility, documentation and the full application.
Open to self-employed digital nomads and employed remote workers.
Your employer may be based outside Italy; there is no percentage cap on Italian work.
At least six months' prior experience in the remote activity.
Income of at least three times the minimum level for exemption from healthcare cost-sharing.
One-year permit, renewable annually; five years are expected to count towards EU long-term residence.

Collect documents: contracts, income evidence, health insurance, accommodation proof and evidence of six months' remote experience.
Submit your national visa application to the Italian consulate responsible for your place of residence.
Pay the €116 visa fee and attend any interview the consulate requires.
Receive your visa and travel to Italy within its validity.
Apply for your residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) within eight working days of arrival.
