Requirements
Meet eligibility for at least one stream — FSW, FSTP, or CEC.
Score competitively under the CRS system. Recent cut-offs: Canadian Experience Class 516-523, Provincial Nominee Program 697-768, French-language 382-391.
Hold a valid Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
Prove language proficiency in English or French (CLB 7 for Federal Skilled Worker; lower minimums apply under the Federal Skilled Trades Program and for some Canadian Experience Class occupations).
Provide proof of settlement funds unless exempt.
Who cannot apply
Low CRS score or incomplete ECA/language results.
Insufficient settlement funds (unless exempt by job offer).
Incorrect or unsupported work experience documentation.

A CRS score in the high 400s no longer guarantees anything. With no general draws running, your realistic route is either Canadian Experience Class, a provincial nomination, or qualifying for one of the ten 2026 categories.
CRS cut-offs move with every draw. Any score quoted here is the most recent published figure, not a promise.
A provincial nomination is worth 600 CRS points and is the single biggest lever available to most candidates.
Compliance
The 2026 category-based selection categories are: Education, Trades, Transport, Health care and social services, STEM, Physicians with Canadian work experience, Researchers with Canadian work experience, Senior managers with Canadian work experience, Skilled military recruits with a Canadian Armed Forces job offer, and French-language proficiency.
Four categories were added for 2026 — physicians, researchers, senior managers and skilled military recruits. Agriculture and agri-food was dropped.
There have been no general or all-programme draws between August and September 2026. Every round in that window was Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Program, or category-based.

Provincial Nominee Program draw cut-offs sit near 700-770 because a provincial nomination adds 600 points, not because those candidates are stronger.
