Run your own business or farm in Manitoba

Investing in Canada has a large amount of benefits for the investors. Apart from having permanent residency in Canada, the investor gets to explore new markets relevant. The investor or entrepreneur will also be eligible for citizenship in Canada after living in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 1,095 days (three years) within five years. These provisions extend to the immediate family of the investor or entrepreneur. One of Canada’s most successful pathways is the Provincial Nomination Program.

Through PNPs, the provinces get the right to choose the eligible individuals who would fit into the respective provinces. One such province is Manitoba. The living and lifestyle there is quite unique in comparison with other provinces. Manitoba provides 2 unique streams for entrepreneurs through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee program. Manitoba has always been productive and different in the manner it implements its programs. Manitoba caters to businessmen and farmers who intend to invest in Manitoba. This program that Manitoba replaced its old MPNP-B program is known as the Manitoba Business Investor Stream.

Through Manitoba Business Investor Stream, Manitoba tries to address the needs of all the investors who intend to invest in Manitoba. There are two pathways that are defined under this stream –

  1. Entrepreneur Pathway – for business people who intend to start or buy a business in Manitoba

  2. Farm Investor Pathway – for experienced farmers who intend to buy and run a farm in rural Manitoba

Entrepreneur Pathway –

The Entrepreneur pathway is for all those businessmen who intend to invest in Manitoba for the purpose of partnering in a running business or wholly owning a business there. Below is a briefing of the steps involved in the Manitoba Entrepreneur Pathway.

  1. The investor will have to make an exploratory visit to Manitoba to research the business opportunity and the local market.

  2. Within one year of that visit, the investor will have to submit an online Expression of Interest (EOI), which is scored and ranked against other candidates.

  3. If invited to apply, the investor will have to prepare his business plan based on the research and submit it with his full application.

NOTE: Once the province approves the application, the investor will get a temporary work permit. The entrepreneur, with the help of this work permit, starts his business journey in Manitoba. The entrepreneur will have to sign a Business Performance Agreement with Manitoba. He will have to set up his business or get it going in Manitoba. He will be given 24 month time period.

  1. During this period, the businessman will have to submit a report that proves that he successfully complied with the agreement entered into with Manitoba.

  2. Once Manitoba immigration are satisfied with the businessman, they will provide a nomination to the Businessman.

The businessman can then proceed to apply for Canada permanent residency with IRCC.

To qualify for this program –

  1. The investor should have at least 3 years of full-time experience as a business owner or senior manager in the last 5 years

  2. If the investor intends to invest in the Manitoba Capital Region, the investment amount is indicatively CAD 250,000

  3. If the investor intends to invest outside of the Capital Region, the investment amount is indicatively CAD 150,000; the exact amount is set in the Business Performance Agreement

The investor has to prove his personal net worth of CAD 500,000

The investment should create at least one job opportunity for the local residents or citizens of Manitoba.

The investor should hold at least 33.33% of the equity in the business he is investing in, or make an equity investment of at least CAD 1,000,000

  1. The investor should achieve a CLB 5 on the language ability test

  2. A mandatory visit to Manitoba should happen for complete research in the area.

Any of Canada's Business Immigration programs requires that the investor does thorough research about the place and business of investment before proceeding.
