The E-2 visa to the USA is not available to everyone. Only citizens of countries that have an E-2 treaty with the United States can apply, and India is not one of them. Grenada has had an E-2 treaty with the United States since 3 March 1989, and it is the only Caribbean citizenship-by-investment country that does. For anybody wanting to expand their business beyond borders, investing in Grenada brings a second passport and, with it, the possibility of applying for a USA E-2 visa. Each applicant’s E-2 eligibility is decided by the US consulate.
E-2 visa to the US
The E-2 visa is granted to foreigners who want to invest in a business in the United States. Funds can be invested in an existing business as a co-partnership or you can establish your own Business. To obtain a visa, the following requirements must be met:
There is no fixed minimum investment, but it must be substantial for the type of business. With a relatively small amount, such as USD 100,000, an applicant must show clearly why it is enough, and the US consulate decides.
Businesses must bring sufficient income for the maintenance of the investor’s family.
A potential investor should confirm that he does not intend to immigrate to the United States and will leave the country as soon as the investor visa expires.
Note: E-2 status is granted for up to two years at a time and can be extended an unlimited number of times as long as the business continues to qualify. The E-2 visa itself does not lead to a green card.

How to obtain the Grenada Second Passport?
As mentioned above, Indian nationals cannot qualify for the E-2 visa on their Indian nationality. Instead of the EB-5 route, some investors first acquire Grenadian citizenship and then apply for the E-2 visa. Indian nationals should note that India does not allow dual citizenship, so acquiring Grenadian citizenship ends Indian citizenship.
How can we obtain Grenada citizenship? What are the costs?
To become eligible for applying for second citizenship, a person must be 18 years and above without any criminal record. Have an impeccable business and personal reputation as well as a clean banking history.
Depending on each one’s capacity, you can choose either of the two routes below to apply for Grenada’s citizenship:
-
Donation to the National Transformation Fund: USD 150,000 for a single applicant and USD 200,000 for a main applicant with a spouse or a family of four. Each additional dependant beyond a family of four costs USD 25,000.
-
Approved real estate: USD 220,000 in a project approved under the USD 220,000 option, or USD 350,000 in other approved projects, plus a government fee of USD 50,000.
Apart from the main investment, an applicant also pays application, due diligence and processing fees.
Conclusion
Obtaining the E-2 investor visa does not lead to a green card. Investors who want permanent residence need a separate route, such as an L-1A transfer followed by an EB-1C petition, or the EB-5 investor visa.
Therefore, obtaining a second passport from Grenada with the subsequent goal of applying for an investor visa to the United States of America is an excellent way to expand the business and gain additional advantages in the form of visa-free travel around the world.
